West Wing DNC staffers create a platform in an attempt to limit executive power and claim President Trump has violated the United States Constitution.
“We were talking about presidential emergency powers, and we believe that the presidential cabinet and the president right now is going against the Constitution,” said one DNC Staffer. Presidential emergency powers were implemented to allow the president to solve crises, but in recent years the Presidential Cabinet has been abusing these powers to exercise authority in controversial situations. This has sparked conversation in the West Wing about what constitutes an “emergency.”
During committee sessions, West Wing staffers splintered into coalitions around differing policy priorities. In this meeting, all delegates are in the Democratic Party. There was a section dedicated to reforming unchecked executive power to declare emergencies. Usually in the executive branch, decisions made need to be checked and approved by congress. Although, in an emergency, the President can override the checks and balances to address crisis situations. Even though this seems like something that would benefit the U.S., without having any sort of control over the choices of the President, they can cause damage and make decisions that do not represent the ideas of the rest of the government.
Article 1, section 9 of the U.S. constitution prohibits the executive branch from spreading money not authorized by Congress. DNC staffers argue in recent history, President Trump has violated the constitution. Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, which was used to reallocate over $6 billion of military construction to fund the construction of a border wall after Congress refused to grant the requested funds. While Trump got this money, many people, especially the Democratic Party, argue that this situation should not have been deemed an emergency. This same situation is happening today, as in 2025, President Trump again deemed the southern border a national emergency, allowing him to put emergency funds into Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
DNC staffers argue this is the backbone of their motivation to check and remove power from the executive branch. Outstandingly, they claim to want to stop President Trump and allege the use of emergency power has been abused by Republicans to push their beliefs forward, unchecked. West Wing is concerned about how Trump may use his presidential powers to impact the situation surrounding immigration enforcement. DNC staffers have urged the necessity of stopping president Trump and plan to lead a platform campaign against the Presidential cabinet.
While there was a group in the Presidential Cabinet discussing presidential emergency powers, the Cabinet was preoccupied with an attack on the West Wing which involved music and chanting. This act seems to prove their stance on what is happening in the West Wing, as the West Wing is directly trying to remove power from the Presidential Cabinet. West Wing responded during the protest with “Lock him up.”
Under these circumstances, the Presidential Cabinet has not wanted to contribute a statement regarding the situation. The West Wing is appalled by the uncontrolled power and is willing to put in the work to stop President Trump from only making executive decisions. While there is not currently a bill that we are aware of, we do know that they are working on picking a strong 2028 Democratic Presidential Candidate that will better represent what they stand for. While the Presidential Cabinet did not want to give a formal statement, do you think that the actions we saw during their invasion of the West Wing is speaking for itself?
